Group Photos

Large, small, informal or uniform. It sometimes makes sense creatively or financially to gather a bunch of people together and get it done with one picture. Group photos can be deceivingly difficult however, so taking the time to plan and prepare the location is key. Let’s talk through your needs and goals and we’ll come up with a plan that is tailored for your needs.

  • Telling a larger story with one photo, highlighting talent, recognizing everyone, or providing something for people to hold on to to remember an event.

  • Successful group shots can take a lot of work depending on the location. Ideally a scouting trip is best for large groups, as specialized equipment such as risers may be necessary. Plan on needing more space than you think you’ll need.

  • Groups are almost always photographed on a tripod, so that we can combine different parts of the same image if necessary. (I.e. swap heads.) For this reason the final deliverable is almost always one image, although it may be made up of parts of several different shots.

  • The fee can vary tremendously depending on the location, the size of the group, and what equipment and/or staging is necessary to do the shots. A small group shot of 4-5 people added to a portrait session (with advance notice) may add a few hundred to the fee, but a large produced group shot of many people may run into the thousands.
